Polish hauliers moved 381.0 billion tonne-kilometres in 2025 — 20.2% of all road freight in the European Union, ahead of Germany on 14.7%. Eurostat's own figure, published in July 2026. If you are a Polish buyer negotiating freight on the Türkiye corridor, you are usually negotiating with a Polish carrier.
That is leverage, and almost nobody on the buying side uses it. Most Polish importers take the forwarder's first quote on a lane where their own country's carriers dominate the capacity.
Industrial and processed agricultural goods move duty-free between Türkiye and the EU under the customs union, evidenced by an A.TR movement certificate. Get that right and the border is administrative rather than financial.
Unprocessed agricultural products, coal and steel are outside the union and run on separate preferential agreements based on originating status. If you are importing food, establish which regime applies to your specific goods before you compare freight quotes — the customs answer can dwarf the freight difference.
| Mode | What it is for | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Road | The default. Best door-to-door control for palletised and part-load consignments, and the mode where Polish carriers are strongest | Whether you are buying a direct truck or a groupage slot — the transit difference is substantial and the quote often does not say |
| Sea | Volume where time is cheap. Lowest cost per tonne on full loads | Port-to-door, not port-to-port. The inland leg at both ends is where the quoted saving goes |
| Rail | Improving, and genuinely interesting for containerised volume. Services exist and change | Whether a service actually runs on your lane this quarter, and at what frequency. Do not plan on a corridor that is announced rather than operating |
We are not going to publish transit times. They move with the season, the border, the mode mix and the specific service, and a table of days in a blog post is the fastest way to make a reader plan around a number that was true once.
Three things a Polish buyer can do that most do not:
Nothing, in freight terms — we are not a forwarder and we will not pretend to price a lane. What we do is the sourcing and commercial side that determines what you are shipping and from whom. See Enter Türkiye.
What we have and have not done: every case study we own runs the other way — Turkish brands entering Poland. In this direction we have the expertise and an office in İzmir, and no client story to point at yet. We would rather say so than imply otherwise.
Tell us what you are moving and we will tell you which questions we would put to a forwarder first.
Figures checked September 2026.
Disproportionately Polish carriers. Polish hauliers moved 20.2% of all EU road freight in 2025 against Germany’s 14.7%, per Eurostat — so a Polish buyer on this corridor is usually negotiating with a domestic carrier, which is leverage the buying side rarely uses.
The movement certificate that evidences duty-free circulation of industrial and processed agricultural goods under the EU–Türkiye customs union. A missing or incorrect A.TR turns a duty-free consignment into a dutiable one.
We will not publish a figure. It moves with the season, the border, the mode and whether you bought a direct truck or a groupage slot — and that last question, which most quotes leave implicit, is the biggest single driver.
It is improving and genuinely interesting for containerised volume, but services exist and change. Ask whether one actually runs on your lane this quarter and at what frequency — do not plan on a corridor that is announced rather than operating.
